Le projet de recherche-création en musique SOIL (Soil Observation through musical Interaction and Listening), porté par Diane Schuh, Paul Goutmann et John Popham & Pala Garcia (trio Longleash), vise à développer des méthodes déjà éprouvées au sein du jardin et du studio de la MSH Paris-Nord, afin de construire un dialogue international fondé sur l’écoute du vivant. Nous appuyant sur nos travaux en musique, informatique musicale, écologie sonore et paysage, nous proposons le développement de nouveaux outils pédagogiques, de prise de son et de traitement spatial du son à travers des actions de recherche-création dans deux jardins. Le Jardin en mouvement de la MSHPN à Saint-Denis et le Liz Christy community garden à New York présentent, à partir de gestions différentes que nous analyserons, des écosystèmes de résistance face à la densification et à l’artificialisation des sols urbains. Ce projet cherchera ainsi à transformer notre rapport au sol pour en montrer la richesse et l’épaisseur, en proposant une attention au vivant qui passe par l’écoute musicale et la composition d’espaces sonores inspirés par ces milieux. The research-creation project in music named SOIL (Soil Observation through musical Interaction and Listening), led by Diane Schuh, Paul Goutmann and John Popham & Pala Garcia (Longleash trio), aims to develop methods that have already been tried and tested in the garden and studio of the MSH Paris-Nord, in order to build an international dialogue based on listening to the living. Drawing on our work in music, computer music, sound ecology and landscape, we propose to develop new pedagogical tools, sound recording methods and spatial sound processing through research-creation activities in two gardens. The Garden in motion at MSHPN in Saint-Denis and the Liz Christy community garden in New York present ecosystems of resistance to the densification and artificialization of urban soil, based on different management methods that we will be analyzing. The aim of the project is to transform our relationship with the soil, to show its richness and depth, by offering an attention to the living through musical listening and the composition of sound spaces inspired by these milieux.
